Etsy shop name vs shop title: what each one is, and Etsy’s limits
The shop name is your shop’s address; the shop title is a sentence under it. Etsy: Shop names can be up to 20 characters long, and they can't have spaces or punctuation.
The name you choose becomes part of your shop URL:
etsy.com/shop/yourshopname. Shop titles can be up to 55 characters long.
Your shop title is a brief bit of text you can use to describe your shop, and is one aspect of your shop that you can use to influence Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Once the shop is open, the name can be changed 5 times before Etsy Support has to approve it. Type yours to check them, and your section names, against Etsy’s limits; nothing leaves your browser unless you choose to check the name on Etsy.
The name check uses Etsy’s format rule (4–20 characters, letters and numbers only). Whether a name is free is a separate question: the button opens the free shop name checker, which asks Etsy’s API for a shop with that exact name.

Shop name
Shop names must meet the following requirements:
4-20 characters in length; No spaces or special characters; No profanity; Not already in use by an existing Etsy member; Does not infringe on another’s trademark.You may want to capitalize letters in your shop name to distinguish separate words.
Choose a memorable name that reflects your style.
Once a shop name has been used on an open shop, it can't be used again even if the shop it’s connected to is closed.
You also won’t be able to use a shop name that you’ve previously used on another account, even if that account is closed.
However, filing a notice of intellectual property infringement will not free up the shop name for your use.
- The shop name is not your username:
You cannot change your username.
You can't sign in with your shop name if it's different from your username.
Changing your shop name
You can change your name as often as you like before you open your shop.
Once your shop is open, you can change your shop name up to 5 times in Your shop settings.
After that, your name change will require approval from Etsy Support.
Capitalization updates or using a previous shop name don’t count as a name change.
Links to your previous shop name will automatically redirect to your new one.
Display an icon next to your shop name on shop pages, your shop profile, and shop search results for 45 days after the change to let buyers know the name of your shop has changed.
Shop title
Your shop title is a brief bit of text you can use to describe your shop, and is one aspect of your shop that you can use to influence Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
When you enter a new shop title or edit an existing one, you'll be able to preview how it will look in Google search results.
Describe your shop in one sentence, or choose Edit if you've already got a title.
Shop titles can be up to 55 characters long.
They appear right under your shop name on your shop homepage.
Many sellers make it a tagline or slogan, or they state what they sell.
If your shop isn't open yet, you won’t be able to edit your shop title.
Listing titles follow different rules (up to 140 characters): Etsy title character limit.
Shop sections and the announcement
You can have up to 20 custom sections, as well as the default All items section that is in every shop.
A section name can be up to 24 characters.
Sections that don’t have any item listings won’t appear on your public shop page.
You can only add a listing to one section.
Deleting a section doesn’t deactivate the listings within that section.
Your shop announcement appears under the listings on your shop homepage.
Keep your announcement short and sweet.
