Etsy fees in the United States
A US seller keeps more of the same order than a seller in any of the other 31 countries Etsy supports — and the reason is a line that simply is not on a US invoice. Below is every fee on a real order, in the order Etsy charges them, with nothing folded together to make the total look smaller.

A $30 item with $6 shipping, sold from the United States
The buyer pays $36.00. Etsy charges the transaction fee on the whole $36 — item plus shipping — which is the single most common thing US sellers get wrong.

Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads are deliberately not in this table. Ads are a budget you choose; Offsite Ads only applies to some orders. Folding either into a flat percentage would make this number look worse than a typical order actually is.
What is specific to the United States
The headline $0.20 and 6.5% are the same in all 32 countries. These are the lines that actually differ — and in the US, two of them are simply absent.

Percentage-based fees only — the 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing, any regulatory operating fee, and then the VAT or GST charged on all of it. Common questions
What percentage does Etsy take in the US?
On a $36 order (a $30 item with $6 shipping) Etsy takes $3.87, which is 10.75% of the order. Of that, 9.5% is percentage-based — 6.5% transaction plus 3% payment processing — and the rest is the $0.20 listing fee and the flat $0.25 per order. There is no VAT on fees and no regulatory operating fee in the United States.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% payment processing both apply to the order total, which includes what the buyer paid for shipping. On this order that is 39 cents of transaction fee on the $6 of postage alone.
Why do US sellers pay less than sellers in other countries?
Two lines that exist elsewhere are absent in the US: VAT or GST on Etsy’s own fees, and the Regulatory Operating Fee. Thirty-one of the 32 seller countries pay tax on the fees — 19% in Germany, 20% in the UK and Turkey, 27% in Hungary. Eight also pay a regulatory operating fee. The United States pays neither, which is why it sits first in the table above at 9.5%.
Is the $0.20 listing fee charged again when a listing renews?

Are Etsy Ads included in these numbers?
No, deliberately. Etsy Ads is a daily budget you set yourself, and Offsite Ads only applies to orders that came through Etsy’s own advertising. Folding either into a flat percentage would misrepresent a typical order. Set them aside and judge them on their own return.
How current are these figures?
Every number here was read from Etsy’s own fees and payment-policy pages on 5 September 2026 and is generated from the same dataset as our calculator and 32-country table, so the three can never contradict each other. The dataset is published under CC BY at /data/etsy-fees-2026.json.
