The spread is real: the same $36 order leaves a US seller with $24.13 and an Indian seller with $22.31. The difference is almost entirely VAT charged on Etsy's fees plus local payment-processing rates — not anything you can negotiate. Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads are excluded on purpose; see below.

Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads. Ads spend is a budget you choose, not a fee on every order, so folding it in would make every result look worse than reality. Offsite Ads is 12–15% but only on orders that actually came from an Etsy-bought ad — for most sellers that is a minority of orders. Adding either as a flat percentage would be dishonest arithmetic.
Currency conversion. If you are paid out in a currency other than USD, your bank or Payoneer takes a spread on top. That is outside Etsy and varies by provider.
Yes. The transaction fee applies to the item price plus the shipping you charge, which is why free shipping is not free — you absorb the fee on the amount you build into the price.
Because the transaction fee is only one of four or five. Once you add payment processing, the listing fee, any regulatory fee and VAT on fees, most sellers land between 10% and 16% of gross depending on country.
Every figure was re-read from Etsy's own pages on 5 September 2026 and the sources are linked above so you can check them yourself. That date matters: Etsy changed the regulatory operating fee in seven markets on 22 June 2026 — France went from 0.47% to 1.14%, Hungary gained a 1.97% fee that did not exist before, and Türkiye fell from 2.27% to 1.67%. Any calculator still showing the old numbers is quietly wrong. We keep a dated log of what changed at Etsy fee & policy changes.
