Etsy Vacation Mode: what stops, what keeps running, and what you still pay

Vacation Mode is a setting that temporarily pauses new orders in your Etsy shop. When Vacation Mode is on, buyers can visit your shop and message you, but your listings are hidden from search and can’t be purchased. It does not stop the bills: Vacation Mode does not pause shop responsibilities or recurring fees. If you turned it on yourself, an Etsy Plus subscription keeps billing $10.00 a month and every auto-renewing listing that expires is renewed at $0.20. If Etsy put your shop in Vacation Mode, Etsy pauses both. Work out what your break costs below; nothing you type leaves your browser.

Count a listing once for each time it will expire during the break. Shop Manager → Listings shows each listing’s expiry date and whether it auto-renews. Pattern also keeps billing when you turn Vacation Mode on yourself; Etsy’s article gives no amount, so it is not added here.

What Vacation Mode pauses

• Listings and Etsy Ads do not appear in search results. Your shop may appear when buyers search for your exact shop name.
• Direct links to listing pages display an “Item unavailable” notice.
• Etsy Ads: Active campaigns pause automatically. Etsy Ads charges do not accrue. Offsite Ads: If Offsite Ads is optional for you, you can still turn it on or off.
• New listings will be saved as drafts. You are not charged a listing fee for new draft listings until they are published after you return.

What keeps running, and what you still pay

• You remain responsible for fulfilling open orders, resolving open cases, responding to buyer messages, and paying recurring subscription charges.
• Vacation Mode does not pause Star Seller evaluation. Unanswered messages will count against your response rate, but auto-replies count as responses.
• Vacation Mode does not exempt you from monthly billing. Any fees you accrued before turning Vacation Mode on are still due on the first of the month. If your account becomes overdue while Vacation Mode is on, you’ll need to pay the outstanding balance before you can reopen your shop. How the monthly bill works: your Etsy bill.
• If any listings set to auto-renew expire while Vacation Mode is on, you’ll be charged the renewal fee. You can disable auto-renew at any time. The renewal is the listing fee: You will be charged a listing fee of $0.20 USD for each item that you list for sale on Etsy.com or Etsy’s mobile apps.
• Listings not set to auto-renew will expire after 4 months. This countdown continues while your shop is on Vacation Mode and cannot be paused. (how long an Etsy listing lasts)
• Etsy Plus: Your monthly subscription fee continues. Unused listing or Ads credits expire at the end of the billing cycle and do not roll over. The fee: The fee for an Etsy Plus subscription is $10 USD per month. Pattern: Billing continues and your Pattern site is also paused.

When Etsy puts your shop in Vacation Mode

• If Etsy puts your shop in Vacation Mode, it usually means there's an issue with your account that needs to be resolved before you can continue selling. You cannot turn off Vacation Mode yourself. In most cases, Etsy will automatically turn off Vacation Mode once any account-related issues are resolved.
• Common reasons Etsy may place your shop in Vacation Mode include: Missing or outdated taxpayer information; Payoneer verification issues; Policy violations or issues with listings; Account security concerns; High case rate or falling below Etsy’s customer service standards; Location-based restrictions.
• Active Etsy Plus and Pattern subscriptions will be paused automatically--you will not be billed during the pause. You will not be charged renewal fees for listings set to auto-renew.
• Your Star Seller badges will not be visible on your shop's homepage while your shop is paused.
• If your legal and taxpayer information or bank account information is pending verification, Vacation Mode may remain on until Etsy completes the review. Shop suspensions are typically lifted within 24–48 hours after resolving your Payoneer issues. If your shop is eligible for an appeal, you’ll have the option to submit an appeal through Etsy’s Appeals Center. Coming back

• When you are ready to get back to selling, you’ll need to turn Vacation Mode off in order for your listings to appear in search and to receive new orders.
• Your listings become visible again shortly after you turn off Vacation Mode, usually within minutes. Search performance may change after a period of inactivity and can vary as buyers start interacting with your listings again.
• While you are away: Additionally, buyers will see the option to receive an email from Etsy when your shop reopens – you can't hide this option. Your shop announcement and auto-reply should not be used to direct buyers to purchase from your personal website.
• You will still be able to browse and purchase from other shops while Vacation Mode is on for your shop.
