Etsy fees in Australia

Australian sellers have a clean fee structure and one hidden cost that no fee schedule lists: currency. Below is every line on a real order, in the order Etsy charges them, with nothing folded together to make the total look smaller.

Fee mechanics only. Nothing here is tax advice — registration and liability questions belong with an accountant. Not affiliated with Etsy, Inc.

Etsy takes 11.6% of the gross order. A US seller pays 10.8% on the identical order — the difference is explained below.

What is specific to Australia

The headline 6.5% is the same everywhere. These are the lines that actually differ.

GST 10% applies to Etsy’s feesEtsy charges 10% GST on its own fees to Australian sellers — listing, transaction and payment processing. On a $36 order that is about 38 cents, which takes the total from roughly 10.6% to 11.6% of gross. If you are GST-registered this is generally creditable; under the A$75,000 turnover threshold you are not required to register and you absorb it.
There is no regulatory operating fee hereUnlike the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey and India, Australia has no additional regulatory operating fee. That is a genuine structural advantage — Australian sellers pay less than European ones on an equivalent order.
Currency conversion is the cost that appears on no fee scheduleEtsy’s listing fee is charged in USD. If you sell in AUD and are paid in AUD, or sell in USD and convert, there is a conversion spread somewhere in the chain. It is typically in the region of 2.5% and it does not appear as a fee line — it appears as a slightly worse exchange rate. Over a year it is often larger than the GST line, and most sellers never count it.
The fixed payment fee bites hardest on cheap itemsPayment processing is 3% + A$0.25. On a A$10 sticker the fixed 25 cents is 2.5% on its own; on a A$200 print it is negligible. If your catalogue is mostly low-priced items, the fixed component — not the percentage — is what determines your margin.

Common questions

What are Etsy fees in Australia in 2026?

An Australian seller pays a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, payment processing of 3% + A$0.25, and 10% GST on all of those fees. On a $30 item with $6 shipping that totals about $4.16, or roughly 11.6% of the gross order.

Does Etsy charge GST on its fees to Australian sellers?

Yes, 10% GST is applied to Etsy's fees — not to your sale price, but to Etsy's cut. If you are registered for GST this is generally creditable on your BAS. Under the A$75,000 turnover threshold you are not required to register and you absorb it. Confirm your own position with an accountant.

Are Etsy fees higher in Australia than in the US?

Slightly. Etsy's base rates are the same, and Australia has no regulatory operating fee. The only structural difference is the 10% GST on fees, which takes an identical $36 order from about 10.8% in the US to about 11.6% in Australia.

Does currency conversion cost Australian Etsy sellers money?

Yes, and it does not show up as a fee. The listing fee is denominated in USD and payouts involve a conversion somewhere. The spread is typically around 2.5% and appears as a slightly worse exchange rate rather than a line item. Over a year it is often a larger cost than the GST on fees.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping in Australia?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping charged to the buyer as well as the item price. Given Australian postage costs, this is a more significant line here than in most markets — a A$15 shipping charge costs you nearly A$1 in transaction fee alone.

Fees are the easy part. Pricing is the hard part.
