How it works
- One request to Etsy. Your words go to Etsy’s API as an active-listing search, sorted by relevance; the titles of the first 100 results are read. Nothing is estimated and nothing comes from an AI model.
- Phrases, not whole titles. Each title is split at commas, bars and dashes, and every two- and three-word phrase inside a part is counted once per title. Phrases that start or end with a small word (“for”, “with”, “the”) are skipped. Only phrases at least two titles share are shown; no listing’s title is shown in full.
- “Up front” counts the titles that have the whole phrase inside their first 40 characters — roughly the part a shopper sees in search on a phone. Etsy’s limit is

— see Etsy’s title limit. - Brand and character names (Disney, Marvel, Stanley and similar) are counted and marked “brand name”, but never suggested. Using a trademark you don’t own in a listing can get it removed under Etsy’s intellectual property policy.
What it cannot tell you
How many people search each phrase, or which titles lead to sales. Etsy’s API publishes neither search volume nor sales per listing, so any tool that shows them is estimating. A phrase many titles share is common wording for this search — that is all the count proves. Etsy’s own advice is to Clearly state what the item is and any key details. Avoid repetition as well as subjective words.

Common questions
Is the Etsy title generator free?
Yes, with no account. It reads public listing data through Etsy’s API, which costs nothing per search, so there is nothing to unlock. There is a daily limit per visitor to keep the API key healthy for everyone.
Does it write the title for me?
No. It shows the words that real listings for your search share, counted, and where in the title they put them. Writing the title from those words is yours — you know what your item is. A title assembled from other sellers’ phrases can describe something you don’t sell.
Why the first 40 characters?
In search results on a phone, a long title is cut short, so the opening words carry most of the weight with a shopper. Etsy does not publish an exact cut-off; 40 characters is the same rough guide the title checker uses.
Do you store my search?
No. The search is sent to Etsy when you press the button and the result is shown to you; nothing about it is saved. We count anonymously that the page was used and which kind of result it gave, with no search words and no cookies.
Why no search volume or title score?
Because Etsy’s API does not provide search volume, and a score would be a number we made up. The page shows what can be checked: which phrases real titles share and where they put them.
A good title cannot fix the wrong product
