From Etsy’s help page “Requirements and Best Practices for Images in Your Etsy Shop”. Etsy gives a minimum for some images and a recommended size for others; where it gives only one, the other column is empty rather than guessed.

Etsy’s words, size by size
- Big shop banner —
The minimum required size for big shop banners is 1200 x 300px. The recommended size is 1600 x 400px.
- Mini shop banner —
The minimum required size for mini shop banners is 1200 x 160px. The recommended size is 1600 x 213px.
- Shop logo (shop icon) —
The recommended size for logos is 500 x 500px.
- Profile photo —
The recommended size for profile photos is 400 x 400px.
- Order receipt banner —
The minimum required size for order receipt banner photos is 760 x 100px.
- Carousel banner (Etsy Plus) —
The recommended size for carousel banners is 1200 x 300px.
- Team logo —
The recommended size for team logos is 170 x 100px.
- Collage banner —
For 2 images, the minimum required size is 600 x 300px.
- Collage banner —
For 3 images, the minimum required size is 400 x 300px.

Big banner, mini banner or none?
Etsy’s page on shop appearance describes the two standard styles: the mini banner is “A narrow image with a minimum size of 1200 x 160 pixels.” and the big banner is “A large image with a minimum size of 1200 x 300 pixels.” It also says what you give up with a banner: “If you do not want a banner for your shop, select None. This will move your listings higher up on the page.” and “If you choose not to upload a mini banner or big banner, your shop icon will be the most prominent branding on your shop homepage. Doing this moves your listings higher on the page.”
So the choice is a trade: a big banner shows your brand before your products; a mini banner or none puts your listings higher on the page. Carousel and collage banners need an Etsy Plus subscription — whether that is worth $10 a month is worked out on the Etsy Plus calculator.
File rules that apply to every image
All images in your shop should be one of these file types: .jpg, .gif, .png, .svg, or .heic. These are the only image file types Etsy supports.
Animated .gif files & transparent .png files are not supported. If a file contains transparency, the transparent parts of the image will appear black on Etsy.
If you decrease the size of an image, it won’t lower the resolution. However, if you increase the size of an image, you may lose resolution and pixelation may occur.
We convert images to use the sRGB color profile (CMYK color profile is for print only).
The resizer above follows these rules: it saves a JPG (a type Etsy supports), fills any transparency with the background colour you pick instead of letting Etsy turn it black, and tells you when it had to enlarge your image.
How to change your Etsy banner
Etsy’s steps: “On Etsy.com, go to your Shop Manager.” then “Select the pencil icon next to your shop name under Sales Channels.” and “Select Banner to showcase your brand and listings at the top of the page.”
Listing photos are a different size
Listing photos follow their own rule: “We recommend your listing photos have a width and height of at least 2000 pixels or more. What size is an Etsy banner?
A big banner is 1600 x 400 px recommended, 1200 x 300 px at least. A mini banner is 1600 x 213 px recommended, 1200 x 160 px at least. Etsy: “The minimum required size for big shop banners is 1200 x 300px. The recommended size is 1600 x 400px.” and “The minimum required size for mini shop banners is 1200 x 160px. The recommended size is 1600 x 213px.”
What size is the Etsy shop icon or logo?
500 x 500 px. Etsy’s image page now calls it the logo: “The recommended size for logos is 500 x 500px.” Its shop appearance page still calls the same image the shop icon.
What size is an Etsy profile photo?
400 x 400 px. Etsy: “The recommended size for profile photos is 400 x 400px.”
What size is the Etsy order receipt banner?
At least 760 x 100 px. Etsy: “The minimum required size for order receipt banner photos is 760 x 100px.” Etsy gives no recommended size for it, only this minimum.
Do I need a banner on my Etsy shop?
No. Etsy: “If you do not want a banner for your shop, select None. This will move your listings higher up on the page.”
Why does my Etsy banner have a black background?
Because the file has transparent areas. Etsy: “Animated .gif files & transparent .png files are not supported. If a file contains transparency, the transparent parts of the image will appear black on Etsy.” Fill the transparent parts with a colour before uploading; the resizer on this page does it for you.
Who can use a carousel or collage banner?
Only Etsy Plus subscribers. Etsy: “The carousel and collage banners are only available to sellers subscribed to Etsy Plus.”
